Employment at Jakupa Architects and Urban Designers (2007-2009)

I worked at Cape Town-based Jakupa Architects and Urban Designers immediately after graduating from the University of Cape Town (UCT) with a BArch. Between 2007 and 2009, I occupied a Junior Architect position at Jakupa, and was project architect for two buildings, from concept development right through to technical documentation and contract administration, one of which included tender adjudication. Additionally, I contributed to other projects at Jakupa according to need at various stages of a building’s life, namely: brief appraisals, concept and sketch design proposals, drafting and detailing designs, presentation panels, finishes selection and conditional assessment reports. My time at Jakupa was essential in my development as an architect and designer, serving as a foundation for my further qualification as Professional Architect according to SACAP standards and legislation (SACAP – South African Council for the Architectural Profession).
Herewith follows a selection of some of the Jakupa projects I worked on.

About Maria GC Aragão

Architect, part-time lecturer, external examiner. I am interested in spaces of collective memory, the visual arts and architecture’s potential to enable change. I practice at the intersection between meaning, aesthetics and commerce. As an external examiner I look to architecture as an act of translation
