Finishes palettes: Common ground

Selecting material finishes for buildings, and presenting them to Clients, is not always easy. A frequent complaint from Clients is that they can’t see the full picture, or how everything comes together. In preparation for the actual product samples presentation, I find it helpful to create a guideline document that outlines the materials approach for the entire project, providing space-specific material palettes that together create a mood for the building.
Such document illustrates a holistic approach to finishes selection, which the Client can appreciate, as well as being a reference manual for the professional team, should a specific product become unavailable and in need of replacement, or if the interior architect is not the same as the design architect for the building, thus creating a common ground for understanding across the board. About Maria GC Aragão

Architect, part-time lecturer, external examiner. I am interested in spaces of collective memory, the visual arts and architecture’s potential to enable change. I practice at the intersection between meaning, aesthetics and commerce. As an external examiner I look to architecture as an act of translation
