Equilibrium Lamp

Equilibrium Lamp

I designed this “EQUILIBRIUM” lamp inspired by the leaning tower of Pisa, an exercise in equilibrium vis-à-vis centre of gravity.
The salvaged light fitting is from a second-hand store, and the electrics were restored by RUUM GALLERY (Instagram: @ruum_gallery )
The base/pedestal is in  Umbila, one of Mozambique’s timbers, and was made to my specifications. The wood was turned, waxed and polished by hand, by local carpenter Sr Vasco. I then assembled the parts by hand.
There is real beauty in the detailing of this light fitting. All I had to do was to bring it out of early retirement, and put it on a pedestal. The little on/off switch is oddly white, plastic, throwing out the metal/wood palette. But this “imperfection” only adds to its charm. Like a beautiful face with a mole.
